Happy Thanksgiving!

Canon EOS R f1.2 ISO 640 1/250 Canon RF 50mm f1.2 L

I know I have not been posting regularly.  It has been extremely busy at work and at home.  With that said, I have not quit shooting.

I recently decided to purchase the Canon RF 50mm f1.2 L.  I have read so many reviews comparing it to Zeiss Otus and Leica’s 50mm lenses that I thought it would be a great addition to my collection.  What is even better is that it is autofocus.  The frustrating part is that I had to by another camera to use it.  The Canon EOS R is not a bad camera and there are many aspects of it that I like but I do like the ergonomics of the new Nikon Z7 better.  As Lloyd Chamber states on his website:

“Finally, some lenses are so good that the lens should be bought with the camera considered an accessory necessary for using the lens. The Canon RF 50mm f/1.2L USM is such a lens.”

Abandoned at Sea

We took a short trip this past weekend and went to Sanibel Island.  We went fishing in the bay and there were many of these buildings on stilts sending out at sea.  I thought this abandoned one had some character.

You will probably noticed that I shot this with the new Nikon’s Z7 full frame mirrorless camera.  Having owned many mirrorless cameras and currently owning Sony’s a7RIII, I would say that Nikon has done a fantastic job with their first full frame mirrorless camera.  After using it for about a week I would say the ergonomics is great, the buttons and menus are easy to use and navigate.  The image quality is probably the best in any full frame sensor I’ve used (it should, same sensor as the D850).  This camera feels like a “real” camera, comparable to DSLR.  Only thing missing is the “eye autofocus” that you can find on the Sony mirrorless.  With that said, Sony definitely has some competition.

Last, I also purchased Zeiss 55mm Otus lens and used the new lens adapter for Nikon F mount lenses.  I would agree with other reviews, it is very comparable to Leica’s 50mm lenses on the market today.  It is large, that is the only concerning thing!
